WELCOME ADDRESS

It is a great honour and privilege for Rwanda to host the 19th Conference of The Union Africa Region. The conference will take place from 20-22 June 2013 2013 at Serena Hotel, Kigali City, Rwanda.

The 19th Conference of The Union Africa Region will offer a great opportunity to share, not only African experiences in the fight against and control of lung diseases, but will be also an occasion to learn from achievements, successes and challenges from other countries outside Africa. The theme of the conference is “Tuberculosis and other respiratory diseases: successes and challenges”. We are expecting to welcome around 1,000 delegates from Rwanda, Africa and outside Africa as well as a variety of experts involved in the control and management of tuberculosis and other lung diseases.

The control and management of tuberculosis and other lung diseases have been on for decades: certain countries and programmes have noted impressive performances and progresses while others have been slow in achieving control objectives and are behind the attainment of the MDG objectives. The 19th Conference of The Union Africa Region aims at sharing experiences and enhancing understanding of why some programmes have made progress and others not; what made programmes succeed and what held them back....
